ALPHA-2-MACROGLOBULIN
Alpha-2-Macroglobulin
Alpha-2-macroglobulin is a byproduct of PRP. Alpha-2 is obtained by using a filter to push the PRP through. The filter has very small pores that allow this particular molecule to pass, which is a 70-kilodalton protein functioning as a metalloproteinase inhibitor. Metalloproteinase is an enzyme produced by a number of cells, including inflamed immune cells. This enzyme breaks down the cartilage in the joints and spinal discs. This is a particularly effective treatment following PRP and bone marrow aspirate. The goal is to reduce overall inflammation in the joint so that alph-2 can begin working on cartilage repair and to prevent further breakdown of the cartilage.
