Alpha 2 Macroglobulin
Alpha 2 Macroglobulin
Alpha 2 Macroglobulin is a by product of PRP. Alpha 2 is obtained by using a filter to push the PRP through. The filter has very small pores that will allow the passage of this particular molecule which is a 70 kilodalton protein that functions as a metalloproteinase inhibitor. Metalloproteinase is an enzyme that is produced by a number of cells, included inflamed immune cells. This enzyme will break down the cartilage in the joints or spinal discs. This is a particularly effective treatment following PRP and bone marrow aspirate. The goal is to reduce the overall inflammation in the joint so that Alpha 2 can begin working on cartilage repair or to prevent breakdown of the cartilage further.
