Common causes of TMJ pain include : teeth grinding (bruxism), stress and anxiety, jaw injuries, misaligned bite (malocclusion), arthritis in the jaw joint, excessive gum chewing, poor posture, hormonal changes, and overuse of jaw muscles due to habits such as nail biting or chewing on hard objects.

What is being treated with TMJ dysfunction?
Sometimes, the pain from TMJ disorder originates directly from the joint, while at other times, it may stem from the masseter and temporalis muscles. It is not uncommon for all three structures to be irritated and inflamed at the same time. Treatment is often accompanied by a dentist providing mouth guards to prevent nighttime grinding.
